Covered California’s Open-Enrollment Period Kicks Off Nov. 1

Today, Nov. 1, marks the official start of open enrollment in Covered California. This year’s open-enrollment period is more crucial than ever before. Back and forth in Congress has left many people confused about the future of health insurance marketplaces.
Don’t let the distant thunder in Washington keep you from getting the financial help available to buy health insurance. Covered California is here for you today and will be here for you tomorrow.
We’re going on a bus tour to kick off open enrollment and to make sure everyone knows that Covered California isn’t going away. We will make stops up and down the state, standing with our partners and meeting members who have received life-changing care. The theme of this year’s bus tour is “Covered in Art.” We’ve taken inspiration from large-scale murals in urban areas that transform blank walls into vibrant works of art. The Covered in Art project is a living demonstration of the fact that health care is local. We are working with local artists who are passionate about health care access and having a healthy community. The bus will visit the site where the mural will be painted and we’ll see the artist make the first brushstroke. Once it is completed, we’ll share with you pictures of the final product.
Yolanda González
Today in Los Angeles we visited AltaMed, which has enrolled record numbers of individuals in Covered California. Yolanda González, a Los Angeles art teacher, will be painting a mural outside the health center. It will feature the message “Salud y Felicidad” (“Health and Happiness”), which were the words that González says came to mind when she thought of Covered California.
The next stop was KCAL Insurance Agency in Hacienda Heights. KCAL Insurance Agency has enrolled thousands of people since we launched four years ago, and through our work with KCAL, Covered California is now also woven into the fabric of Hacienda Heights and communities across California. I will be updating this blog daily with photos and stories from life on the road, until the first leg of the tour ends on Tuesday, Nov. 7. I hope you’ll come along for the ride. Tomorrow’s stops include:
  1. La Maestra Clinic (4147 Fairmount Ave., San Diego, CA 92105)
  2. Quote Selection (16532 Beach Blvd., Huntington Beach, CA 92647)
  3. Providence Wellness and Activity Center (470 Hawaiian Ave., Wilmington, CA 90744)
