Peter's Blog: Bus Tour, Day Four

Today the Spotlight on Coverage Bus Tour rolled through southern California, where we were greeted by our partners in Los Angeles, Hacienda Heights, Garden Grove and Indio. In downtown Los Angeles, we met up with the doctors and nurses delivering on the promise of care at Eisner Pediatric and Family Medical Center. And over in Garden Grove, Quote Selection Insurance is teeming with insurance agents eager to provide enrollment assistance.

We visited Quote Selection Insurance on Monday, Nov. 2 in Garden Grove.

We stopped at Kenny Chang Insurance Agency (KCAL) in Hacienda Heights, where we were met by a great crowd. We are grateful for the more than 500 storefronts like KCAL providing culturally competent, in-language assistance in their communities. KCAL has been an important piece in our commitment to getting the Asian/Pacific Islander community enrolled in health care.

In this third open-enrollment period, we are doubling down on what works and include in our marketing English and Spanish commercials, and ads began airing today in Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean and Vietnamese.

The commercials are part of a $29 million campaign to promote enrollment in health coverage through Covered California. Television, radio, print, out-of-home, digital and social ads will all be in the mix to promote enrollment among English speakers. Targeted campaigns for African Americans; the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities; and Spanish speakers round out the new “It’s Life Care” ad campaign.

The slogan for the new campaign is “It’s not just health care – it’s life care.” It is a reminder that care through Covered California is there for you through the unpredictability of life. The coverage you receive can help you up when you are down and improve your quality of life.

JFK Memorial Hospital in Indio, our final stop of the day, drives that point home. The hospital is one of more than 400 throughout the state where Covered California enrollees can receive care. The hospital in the Coachella Valley serves 653 Covered California enrollees, who were treated for 563 instances of broken bones among many other health care needs.
