Peter's Blog: Bus Tour, Day Three

Covered California's spotlight illuminates Los Angeles City Hall on Oct. 31, 2015

Today we kicked off open enrollment for coverage in 2016, and we were gratified to see enrollment storefronts in Los Angeles bustling with people eager to enroll and get more information. We also heard from those who told us how their lives were impacted by getting covered.

At our very first stop on Friday at Scripps Hospital in San Diego, Kelly Hartmann shared her experience. Kelly received critical spinal fusion surgery in 2013. Just five days later, her health insurance plan cancelled her coverage. While she was recuperating from surgery, Kelly researched Covered California health plans and selected one that allowed her to continue to go to Scripps Hospital and keep her team of doctors.

Kelly Hartmann speaks at Scrips Hospital in San Diego on Friday, Oct. 30.

“I can't say enough for Scripps and what they've done for me, and for Covered California,” said Kelly. “It's been without a hitch. I haven't run into any bumps with Covered California at all – my continuation of care rolled right over.”

We visited our partners at LoDel Insurance Agency in Lynwood, Calif. on Sunday, Nov. 1.

Tomorrow, we will continue the bus tour with stops at:

  1. 8:30 a.m. — Eisner Pediatric and Family Center (1500-1530 South Olive St., Los Angeles, CA 90015).
  2. 9:30 a.m. — KCAL Insurance Agency (2048 S. Hacienda Blvd., Hacienda Heights, CA 91745).
  3. 11:30 a.m.  Quote Selection Insurance (13458 Harbor Blvd., Garden Grove, CA 92843).
  4. 4:00 p.m.  JFK Memorial Hospital (47111 Monroe St., Indio, CA 92201).

Stay tuned for more blog entries as we continue to make our way through California on our Spotlight on Coverage tour, which runs through Friday, Nov. 12.
